Whaly was born in 2020 in Paris, France.
The idea came from a real pain point that our three co-founders Emilien, Pierre, and Florian identified when they were working together at their previous company, a customer data platform for major media and retail companies across France.
As Product Managers and Head of Customer Success at this company, they saw first-hand how difficult it was to execute their data projects. It was usually because tools were either too fragmented, or made for engineers. They ended up having to call their developers out of their sprint cycles to help with anything data-related, which negatively impacted the number of features they could release to their customers.
This made data adoption across “data-driven” companies a real challenge. Data leaders spend 80% of their time maintaining a stack, while underserved business teams who need answers end up manually finding workarounds like spreadsheets. Something was broken in this process. It shouldn’t be that hard to streamline the path from data to valuable insights for the sake of informing important business decisions.
The solution was some form of user-friendly, integrated data platform that includes data collection, modeling, and visualization in one. Above all else, it would be a platform that everyone is empowered to use and benefit from.
In 2020, the co-founders decided to start building the product and pursued this venture full-time. Shortly after, they joined Station F and took part in Y Combinator’s S21 batch. During their time at Y Combinator, they iterated on their idea, shipped their first product, and acquired their first customers. Now we’re onto 40+ customers globally, and counting.
These days, we position ourselves as a self-service business intelligence platform, enabling data teams and business teams to work better together.
We’re excited to keep growing, and to help companies unlock value from analytics that benefit everyone. 🚀
